United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said the path to peace in Yemen was still possible despite existing complexities.

This comes after a session of the UN Security Council on Wednesday December 17, 2025.The interview was devoted to the evolution of the situation in Yemen.

Guterres stressed that political solution through dialogue remains the only option to end the crisis, calling on all Yemeni parties to seriously engage in a comprehensive negotiation path leading to an end to the conflict and alleviation of the suffering of citizens.

The Secretary-General stressed the need to immediately release all detainees, including employees of the United Nations and international organizations, calling on the Houthi group to take urgent steps in this direction, as it is a human and moral right that helps build confidence and prepare the atmosphere for any political progress.

He warned that continued arrests and violations were undermining chances for peace and worsening the humanitarian crisis.

Guterres also stressed that preserving Yemen’s unity and preventing its division represents a fundamental pillar of any lasting political settlement, emphasizing that the international community stands united with a unified Yemen with full sovereignty over its lands.

He considered that any project of fragmentation or any unilateral solution would only generate more complexity and instability, calling for the national interest to prevail and for the unity and social fabric of the country to be preserved.
